Baker Boss Mission Organization Series - Week 1
This is the first of a weekly series for the month of January! With the start of a New Year we are always motivated to get things freshened up and organized in our lives, especially if it makes our lives easier! So excited to share my organizing methods with you that keep me sane and save time. If you are as crazy about cookie cutters as I am, you will definitely appreciate this post! I started collecting my cookie cutters when I was a teenager, but it has become a bit of an obsession over the last 5 years. Actually, it is more of an addiction! I can’t STOP, LOL! My collection has swelled to the point of ridiculousness and if you are like me, I was swimming in cookie cutters. I have literally reached over 1,000 cookie cutters. Gasp! Yes, you read that right ONE THOUSAND!
So, to keep my vast collection in proper order and keep my sanity intact, I came up with the idea about 4 years ago to create what is now known as “The Bunnycakes Cookie Cutter Bible”. Its pretty rustic, but has worked so freakin well for me! I am a manuel, tactile individual who has great difficulty in doing things in the digital world. I know there are programs and apps like Sortly, that you can use to organize your STUFF, especially if you have a ton of it, but this method has truly been very efficient for me.
When I first started logging and tracing cutters, into my book, I made sure the the bins that I store my cutters in, coordinated with my book. Over the years I have collected so many more cutters and have created so many new bins, that the sections in my book no longer coordinate. Which is ok and still works for me, for now. What’s great about this book is that I do not have to go digging through bin after bin, looking for the right cutters for whatever order or project I may be planning. It is such a HUGE TIMESAVER!
Every new cookie cutter that I buy, or should I say have the sheer audacity to purchase, gets immediately traced and logged into my cutter Bible. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. I also include where I bought it, what the cutter is made of i.e. metal, plastic, the color of the cutter and sometimes the size, if I have more than one size for a shape. This is a great reference book also, especially if you want to tag and give credit to a favorite cutter company on Instagram, when you have a beautiful masterpiece you have created with their cutters. It also is great for matching up my stencils with plaque cutters and other shapes. I just take the stencil and line it up with my traced cookie cutter image and VOILA! I know immediately if they are gonna work well together or not!
My Bunnycakes Cookie Cutter Log Book is a 3” D Ring Avery binder with inside pockets and tabbed separators for the different categories. Find this binder here in my Amazon store at www.amazon.com/shop/bunnycakesandcookies I organized my binder by seasons, which I do plan on changing in the near future, to coordinate more with the bins at my shop. I use card stock thick white paper to trace my cookie cutters with and it makes the pages easier to turn and more sturdy with use. If I have a customer contact me or I get any ideas for designs, I can immediately go to my book (which I keep at home, cutters are at my shop) and flip through to see what cutters I can use for the project. I can also quickly measure the cutters to see if they will work with certain boxes or packaging, before I make a packaging purchase. This book has been my absolute savior and I know if you are like me, it will make cookie life much more efficient! Watch the video tour of my awesome log book and definitely tag me on Social Media with your cookie cutter log book ideas! Stay tuned for next weeks episode of Baker Boss Mission Organization - Cookie Stencils!
